It’s a girl!

baby4

The whole family was present for our 20 week ultrasound. Some were more excited about that than others (Smiley fell asleep) but overall I am glad we decided to make it a family event. I think most of us were expecting a boy, and I know at least two of the girls were actually really hoping for a boy, but the important thing is, of course, that she looks healthy and is measuring just right. Personally, though I was expecting a boy, I find the idea of four girls in this house really hilarious. And the thought that we will have at least one teenage girl for a solid 18-19 years or so? Ridiculous.

Next on the agenda is names. We have decided to keep the discussion within the five of us, because five is already plenty of opinions to try to appease. We have been keeping a list on the kids’ easel of name ideas and so far we have at least four that everyone thinks they can live with. It may come to a vote at some point. We’ll see.

I am 24 weeks along now and can feel her moving every day, which is lovely and bizarre. I have an anterior placenta which isn’t a big deal apparently, except that it means it will be harder for others to feel her move and that I also feel her less often than I would otherwise. I myself am doing very well. I had some trouble adjusting to sleeping on my side but bought a maternity pillow with some birthday money (thanks, Mom!) and it has really helped with back and leg pain. My main issue is rib pain of all things, but overall all of my issues have been relatively minor.
